The 2012 Sedona Marathon hosted it’s biggest race field on Saturday morning, with 179 marathon finishers, 586 half marathoners, 402 racing the 10K, and 594 crossing the 5K finish line.

Flagstaff runners did their part to not only fill that field with a total of 223 participants in the races, but clock some impressive performances across the board, most notably Brian Tinder nabbing first place in the marathon with a 2:54:04—more than four minutes faster than second place. Gary Krugger, also of Flagstaff, placed third in the marathon, with a 3:12:03.

Not to be outdone, the Northern Arizona Trail Runners Association (NATRA) headed

down to red rock country and joined forces with the Polka Katzen band to man Aid Station #5, and came home with the title “Best Aid Station.” Dressed as polka-dancing zombies, the group did it’s best to not only hydrate, but entertain race participants. Watch the mayhem that ensued.
